~St. JOHNS
EVE~
Come closer,
while I tell the tale
of Tara from Glengariff:
whos story
still is whispered here
each year on St. Johns Eve.
Tara
was rescued by a Knight
when condemned for sorcery.
They say she
kept an enchanted Hawke
and was of druid ancestry.
The Knight
hid Tara deep in the wood
in his cottage by the sea.
Their hearts
were bound in a lovers knot
and the years passed happily.
One day her
Knight was called to war
and set sail for a distant shore,
she sent her
hawke to watch over him
as she walked the misty moors.
Her Hawke returned
and to his mistress said:
There was a violent storm at sea,
just one survived from a watery grave
on a far off shore is he.
Now no
one knows if her love returned
to their home in Glengariff,
but they say
two spirits walk hand in hand
by the moors each St. Johns Eve.
