Close My Eyes

At times I find
when I close my eyes
and drift through the memories
of my mind;
Your face before me
with a hand outstretched
to guide me
through days of happiness.

When we plotted our future
alone in the dark
and tagged our wishes
on the tail of stars.
We walked through our lives
hand in hand
sharing our dreams
of tomorrows plans.

I see your red hair shining
when we used to ride bikes;
the joy in your eyes
when you took a wife.
I hear your laughter ring
through the old oak trees;
I smell the fragrance of flowers
you picked for me.

I cherish these memories
spent with you, dear friend,
I never thought
our music would end.
So when I long to embrace you
and tell you I care,
I close my eyes
to find you there. . .
